One of the world’s most active volcanoes, Piton la Fournaise on the French owned island of Réunion has erupted for the second time this year.  This shield volcano generally erupts with lots of runny lava. As the lava is runny any gasses trapped inside can escape easily so eruptions tend not to cause big explosions, large ash clouds or pyroclastic flow.  This means the people of Réunion are generally safe when the volcano erupts
