Hurricane Matthew has now become a category 5 hurricane on the Saffir Simpson scale. This means it has sustained wind speeds of over 252km/h. That’s 70 meters per second.
As the hurricane makes its predicted turn to the north, Jamaica is on high alert. Matthew is now expected to make landfall there on Monday. Jamaicans are stocking up on supplies. The country’s only oil refinery is on the south coast which is expected to be hit first
